The NMC/CoSN Horizon Report: 2017 K–12 Edition discusses technology trends within K-12 schools. It discusses key trends, significant challenges, and developments in technology over the past 6 years in K-12 education. “Technology alone cannot cultivate education transformation; better pedagogies and more inclusive education models are vital solutions, while digital tools and platforms are enablers and accelerators” (p. 10). The Horizon Report gives insight to these pedagogies and how they are shaping education.
My school district has been 1:1 with chromebooks for the past 2 years, so it has been a game changer for my classroom. I am able to incorporate a variety of types of applications in my classroom that I otherwise would not be able to do so easily. I try my best to make sure that my classroom is learner centered as often as I can. I want my students to learn from applications and their peers more than from lecture. I do mini-lectures, but I use applications and hands-on activities so students can see how math is used in the real world. This allows students to grasp and retain the content better than just learning the material to pass a test. I am a strong advocate for technology in the classroom, so I try to model that daily in my classroom and with my colleagues.
