W9 – Acceptable Use Policy

An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is a document that governs students’ use of the internet at school. It includes a detailed explanation of the responsibilities, privileges, and unacceptable behaviors that students must abide by. AUP’s are very important when blocking certain sites or material from student devices. The policy covers the reasoning behind this.

Students in our district are required to take a course in middle school that teaches them how to be safe online, and one of the topics discussed is the AUP. Students and teachers need to be familiar with the AUP. Teachers need to also be cognizant about making sure students understand proper use of their technology while they are at school and away from school if they are using a school issued device. The education of students is an essential part of the school’s internet safety provision. Students need support to recognize and avoid e-safety risks, so the AUP is in place to help avoid these things.
